 Set up an analytical laboratory from scratch for Quality Control and Research and Development, including test method development. Formulation development and analysis of slurries and electrolytes for lithium-ion batteries. Developed SOPs for instrumentation and processes in the laboratory and the plant. Prepared small laboratory cells for component and formulation development. Led polymer development program to evaluate and synthesize polymers for use in lithium-ion batteries. Polymer systems investigated and synthesized include: polyolefins, polyurethanes. Explored structure-property relationships of current commercial, competitive, and experimental components in formulations through design of experiments. Provided technical support and training for marketing group in the generation of launch packages, commercial brochures, comparative data with competition, and technical presentations in PowerPoint. Utilized extensive characterization techniques of small molecules, polymers, formulations, and materials by FTIR, differential scanning calorimetry (DSC), thermogravimetric analysis (TGA), scanning electron microscopy (SEM), particle size analysis, surface area analysis, viscometry, gas chromatography (GC), atomic absorption (AA), mass spectrometry (MS), compressive strength, pH, conductivity, battery testing, impedance analysis, colorimetry, and moisture analysis. Reviewed open and patent literature. Maintained detailed laboratory notebooks. Experienced with Microsoft Office products Excel, Word, Access, and PowerPoint.
