Charlie Gay is a pioneer in the photovoltaic solar manufacturing industry with over 50 years of renewable energy experience. He served most of his career in the private sector, leading ARCO Solar, Siemens Solar Industries, ASE Americas, and Applied Solar at Applied Materials. Dr. Gay was director of the Solar Energy Technologies Office for the U.S. Department of Energy and was Director of the National Renewable Energy Laboratory (NREL).He is co-founder of the Greenstar Foundation, an organization that develops multi-function solar powered community centers in isolated villages throughout the developing world.In 2022, Charlie was appointed founding president of Galaxy Energy. In this role new metallic alloys and coatings are being developed for continuous mass production of solid state lithium-metal batteries. Dr. Gay holds a Ph.D. in physical chemistry from the University of California, Riverside where he received the Distinguished Alumni Award in 1989. He was elected to the U.S. National Academy of Engineering in 2013.
