As the (DES) Director of Emergency Services – using the knowledge and experience I have gained over 30 years in emergency services – my role is to coordinate the various functions that facilitate after-the-incident operations. When an incident occurs, first responders focus on life safety, scene stabilization and property conservation, and they are expert at it. Once that has been completed, their next priority is to clear the scene so they can adequately respond to other emergencies. Everything that happens after the incident – in regard to securing a building or affected area, and victim assistance – is really a hindrance to their mission. So, the homeowner and/or occupant is responsible for securing the property, making the proper notifications, and preserving their property and valuables; many times without any professional guidance. That is where 1-800’s DES rapid response concept fills the void. Through its community outreach efforts, 1-800-BOARDUP affiliates with local service providers to deliver victim assistance and scene stabilization functions to those suffering a loss from fire, natural disaster, and water emergencies. The idea is very simple…the fire department, homeowner or insurance carrier calls our national dispatch center, which, in turn, notifies the appropriate DES and his/her associated team. Once notified of an incident, we can quickly respond; identify the property owner; support the victims; provide them with shelter; help them make contact with their insurance company; and prevent secondary loss to valuables, furniture, and the property.Once control of the property is returned to the individual, we will stay with them to ensure that the property is safe for them to re-enter and help them salvage retrievable items.There are many more services we can provide and you can learn more about them by going to our webpage @ http://www.1-800boardup.com/.
