I founded GREENLANCEMedia in 2015 as a way to make my full-time freelancing "official." For local clients, I specialize in what I like to call "digital handyman" services such as: social media coaching. website design/development, user and software research, installation and training, and of course being a local trusted advisor to the good people of New England. I like to think I fill a needed gap. My team and I design, develop, manage & maintain custom websites, web applications, intranets, BI dashboards, web analytics analysis and reporting, digital marketing and advertising management, and other related services. Website CMSs include: Wordpress, Craft, Kentico, and Laravel.

After four years of college, some freelancing and then some, I finally managed to land a position at a digital publishing company for comic books. (Totally my dream from my highschool days. My capstone thesis project in college was building a prototype for this kind of platform, so as you could imagine I was totally stoked!)While my title said UX designer, I was really more of a product designer since I was in charge of the whole design and direction of the product rather than someone who mostly tweaked and tested (though I did a fair bit of that as well). I not only handled the bulk of the functional design, but I also wrote all the specification documents, handled all of the user feedback and user generated bug reporting, spent a lot of time doing the online advertising and marketing, and a million other things that I won't bore you with. Working at Social Octopus was a crazy fun ride. This was my first formal role as a UX designer... and it was also the founders' first time working with one (and a first start-up as well). I had to learn and make up everything as I went at a furiously fast pace, and I wore a lot of hats. Admittedly, it was challenging as well since the development team was Thai (and in Thailand) and I neither spoke Thai, nor knew a lot about the culture. There was a huge learning curve for all of us (plus timezone discrepancies), but we made it work!All good things must end though, and after two years the investors canceled funding on the project. The publishing platform, as a standalone business, was dead, but it continued on as web-based software that they licensed out to publishing houses in Asia.

I'm a bit of a workaholic so it stands to reason that I somehow managed to find time to squeeze in some freelance web development and UX consulting work in-between contracts and during full-time employment (my boss gave me permission I swear). The projects were small and simple: figure out what the client actually needs (rather than everything they want) and design something that makes them want it enough to have me build it... and then build it. (I still maintain these websites.)

This was my first real job... I mean, "fresh-out-of-high-school, I'm-17-please-hire-me!" job. I learned everything I know about customer service from working here, and twice as much about food, person-to-person interactions, and where the food comes from. I still don't know where all the customers come from, though. I think I've done every position they have available at some point or another. Also, this is an awesome restaurant and you should go eat there if you're ever in the area. True Maine cooking and style.The Chase's have been like an extended family to me, so I still cover a shift or two from time to time when they need emergency coverage.

Working for Pica as an intern was great. When I started, I had a lot of unrefined coding expertise that I had picked up from building websites and themes for myself, but I had very little experience coding things for clients. Pica had a "trial by fire" sort of training approach. Within a couple of days I was instructed to log into the development server and make some advanced modifications to a custom Wordpress theme. At this point, I had never touched Wordpress and my understanding of PHP was rudimentary at best. After some experimentation, heavy reading and some coaching from the lead web developer, I was up and running. Soon after that I was asked to sit in on client meetings, help with wireframing and sitemapping new client sites, make live changes to client websites, and I was even granted my own project to develop (not bad for an intern)!

A small contract position for me during my senior year of college. I processed production graphics, made icons, selected stock photos, resized images, etc. It was basic work, but very rewarding to see those images appear on the web based training (WBT) applications once they were compiled.

This was my first real office experience right out of high school, so it was unpaid and experimental. I went into the office every day and the graphic designers would give me assignments and challenges for that day (but they wouldn't give me any hints on how to complete them). I had to figure out what they actually wanted, how to produce it, and then I had to present it to them.The challenges were really varied. I did a couple of animation projects (less than a minute) where I lip-synced audio with a drawing of a head, a movie poster, and a series of icons just to name a few. The challenges got progressively weirder/harder as the days went on. I think they were just having fun with me (the joke's on them though! I had fun with these projects)....These guys were really cool.
