About Emma Cho
My name is Emma Cho, and I am a rising senior at Occidental College in Los Angeles. This fall I am an Arts & Culture Editor, staff writer and photographer for our college newspaper. I recently completed a semester abroad in Seoul, South Korea learning Korean language at Yonsei University.I am a History major at Occidental, where I enjoy taking courses surrounding various topics and perspectives. I am eager to learn about the complex societies, cultures, and diverse people that make up our country — and eventually, tell the overlooked stories of these people. As an Asian American, I have found passion in storytelling and uplifting underrepresented BIPOC voices, especially thorough writing and research. As an Interdisciplinary Writing minor, I aim to continue strengthening my written and verbal skills through different methods of writing and communication. I enjoy working with others and experimenting with different and creative forms of writing.Outside of academics, I am a member of Occidental College's NCAA Division III lacrosse team. Now, in my thirteenth year of playing lacrosse, I have gained the invaluable experience of being on a team — in both in collaborative and leadership roles.Being an athlete has helped fuel my love for sports and sports journalism, especially regarding baseball. I have enjoyed writing opinion pieces about diversity in baseball, which you can read under "Publications" in my profile. As an editor and writer for my school's newspaper, I have had the privilege to learn from and about my peers through leading writers and interviewing members of the community. My interdisciplinary major and passion for writing has motivated me to also look for more creative, hands-on roles in the world of culture, arts, and music. After my study abroad experience, I aim to continue studying Korean language until fluency, as I believe it deepens understandings and can prove beneficial in my passion for storytelling.
