During the internship I worked on several projects. The main project was trajectory design and trajectory optimization of a spacecraft travelling from the earth to the moon with the goal of reducing fuel consumption. My work focused on the insertion into the moon orbit and targeting of the halo orbit around L1 (Lagrange point). I used Modelica / Optimica to model the spacecraft and JModelica.org for the simulations. For the optimization I implemented a new collocation algorithm for trajectory optimization of dynamical systems using Python and CasADi which I connected to JModelica.org and the Modelica / Optimica model to perform the optimizations. The effort later resulted in a patent.

My main assignment was to develop a Python package in JModelica.org that was to support loading and dynamic simulation of models following the Functional Mock-up Interface (FMI).
