Baton Rouge, Louisiana Area

As a GIS Analyst I support the GIS section of the Louisiana Department of Transportation. This includes maintaining the geographic information system of the state's roads and highways as well as updating and maintaining street maps.

As a GIS Analyst for the planning department, I create and maintain map layers that are used by the city planners, as well as layers commonly utilized by other departments and divisions. Some examples of these layers include planning case files, rezonings, annexations, and code violations. I also develop and maintain tools for my coworkers to utilize this data. This may include printed maps, web pages, interactive maps (ArcGIS Server), spreadsheets, or other media.

As the GIS technician for Development Services, I created and maintained map layers of the Development Services GIS, as well as layers commonly utilized by other departments and divisions. Some examples of these layers include planning case files, rezonings, annexations, and code violations.

As a research assistant I conducted original research on a wetland restoration technique frequently used on the Gulf Coast. In the process I collected data by airboat in the field and used various statistical, mapping, and graphing softwares in the lab.

While stationed at Ft. Carson, CO I was at various times- a mortar gunner, a driver, a squad leader, and a Fire Direction Center check. I also traveled to Pinon Canyon (in South Colorado), NTC (in California), PLDC (in Ft. Hood) and IMLOC (in Ft. Benning, GA).

I spent a year in Korea at Camp Casey, Tong Du Chon. I was a driver (track, humvee, 2.5 & 5 ton truck), an assistant gunner, and a gunner for a mechanized mortar platoon. I also spent some time in Seoul on an honor guard at Yongsan.

I went through Basic Training and Advanced Individual Training (infantry & mortar) at Ft. Benning, GA.

I took guests on cattle drives at a guest ranch in Cheyenne, Wy. I set up camp, herded cattle, herded buffalo, fixed fences and helped train horses for guests to ride.
