I am a Partner in the HWL Ebsworth National Insurance Group based in Canberra.I have practised in defence of personal injury claims for fifteen years. I have experience in several areas of insurance litigation, including workers compensation, employment law, public liability, compulsory third party and commercial debt recovery. I have successfully defended claims dealing with causation of injury, breach of privacy, unlawful arrest and tortious liability.I have been successful in a number of complex disputes on legislative interpretation including privilege, jurisdiction, limitation periods, disclosure and costs issues in relation to the Workers Compensation Act 1951 (ACT), the Limitation Act 1985 (ACT), the Civil Law (Wrongs) Act 2002 (ACT) and the Road Transport (Third-Party Insurance) Act 2008 (ACT).I have acted for insurers in advising on new legislation and in compliance projects, most recently in relation to the Motor Accident Injuries Act 2019 (ACT). I have advised insurers on complex policy and indemnity issues, including with regard to cross-border and choice of law issues in the context of the particularities of operating in the ACT. I also regularly deliver advice on appropriate ways to utilise credit issues to facilitate commercial settlements.In resolving matters, my proactive approach is characterised by my strong negotiation skills and focus on achieving commercially sound and timely resolutions on behalf of my clients.I was named as a recommended ACT Lawyer in Workers Compensation and Medical Negligence; and as a leading ACT Lawyer in Compulsory Third Party Insurance in the Doyles Guide, 2019.I was named as a Preeminent Lawyer in Compulsory Third Party Insurance in the Doyles Guide, 2020.
