Chris has broad experience of advising on projects in the refining, petrochemicals, oil & gas and power sectors and his practice spans the construction, project document and financing aspects of these projects. He is also an engineer and a member of the Institution of Engineering & Technology. Prior to entering private practice, Chris was a solicitor and Commercial Manager with Foster Wheeler Energy.Chris has a strong focus on the development and financing of power projects in the EMEA region. He spent two years working in the power development team of a Japanese trading house. In the Middle East, Chris has advised on more than a dozen independent water and power projects in Oman, Saudi Arabia, the United Arab Emirates, Kuwait and Qatar and has helped clients restructure projects in many of these jurisdictions. He advised the winning bidder on the development and financing of the 2000MW Sur IPP, which was awarded Middle East Power Deal of the Year by Euromoney's Project Finance magazine. He advises on the development and financing of power and water projects across sub-Saharan Africa and has worked on project developments in Botswana, Ghana, Kenya, Namibia, Nigeria, South Africa and Zambia. His experience covers conventional, gas-fired, wind and solar power projects, electricity transmission projects and cross-border power trading arrangements. Chris regularly advises on M&A transactions in the power and oil and gas sectors across Europe, the Middle East and Africa. He advised Marubeni Corporation on the disposal of fifty per cent of its interests in the Shuweihat 2 IWPP in Abu Dhabi to Osaka Gas and on other asset swap arrangements in the MENA region. In the oil and gas sector, Chris advises NOCs, majors and other investors on the development of projects, including having advised the ECAs and commercial lenders on the US$4 bn Surgil Petrochemical Complex in Uzbekistan.
