Nov 2024 - Present

Lead Mechanical Engineer

Malmesbury, England, United Kingdom

Main responsibilities included product design management and delivery, liaising with key stakeholders to define design requirements and manage and present technical risks to the business at project phase reviews as well as mentoring junior engineers, fostering their development and technical skills.Key Achievements1. The company faced increased costs due to product returns from field failures, missing reliability and quality targets. Leveraging my extensive Systems Engineering expertise, I developed an innovative and bespoke Design Failure Mode and Effect Analysis (D-FMEA) framework, grounded in international standards (e.g. Automotive), to effectively manage technical risks and requirements.• Managing customer requirements and translating into engineering targets.• Analysing design intent and drafting context diagrams with key to vision targets.• Liaising with design teams to identify functional product-level requirements.• Chaired reviews with category managers and engineering heads to anticipate technical failures.• Scored design risks (severity, occurrence, detection) to support technology readiness level.• Developed V&V strategy to verify and validate requirements and present at tech review. As a result, functional failures are detected earlier in the development process, significantly reducing potential costs and mitigating the reputational impact of post-launch field failures and customer returns.

Apr 2022 - Jul 2024

Senior Mechanical Engineer

Malmesbury, Uk

Primary responsibilities involved advanced CAD design (as part of the super user group), FEA simulation of design solutions, and the construction and testing of prototypes, all aligned with the project V&V strategy to meet critical vision requirements.Key Achievement1. A new Dyson product featuring a high-capacity battery was proposed, classifying it as a non-SELV (Safety Extra-Low Voltage) device. This posed a consumer electrical safety risk since existing accessories were not designed for this requirement. I led a project to analyse the intended powered attachments and assess the cost of re-tooling parts to comply with safety standards.• Cross-team collaboration with compliance and electronics teams to interpret standards and identify creepage and clearance risks.• Quantified cost impact due to design and material changes where required.• Created work packages to perform electrical safety testing on identified risk areas. • Reported to business and project stakeholders this alternative solution to costly design changes.By demonstrating that at-risk areas could pass electrical safety testing with a sufficient safety margin, I successfully eliminated the need for costly re-tooling. This not only minimized project expenses but also enhanced accessory quality by addressing and resolving tolerance issues simultaneously.
