A family member’s near-death experience coupled with the pandemic marked my professional turning point. I was managing a NCAA DI athletics communications office at that time, but those preceding events proved too much for me to continue.Sensing a career change, I enrolled in two TESOL courses during my final year as Abilene Christian's Director of Athletics Media Relations. COVID didn't cancel the athletics season as I had anticipated, yet, I still fulfilled my obligations while completing 150 hours of coursework and teaching practice. So, why TESOL? • I value teaching and believe it's an honorable profession.• I champion the underdog, and am inspired by those who come to America for a better life.• I'm a descendent of Italian, Polish and Slovak immigrants.• I'm a language learner (Spanish and German).• I love traveling to foreign countries (Mexico, Canada, United Kingdom, France, Germany, Czech Republic, Switzerland, Italy and Norway) and benefitting from talking to non-English speakers. In my years as an ESL Instructor, I've created a classroom that's rooted in conversation and cooperation. Together we discuss jobs, child care, law enforcement, education, and I encourage students to help one another navigate their new surroundings.
