I've been interested in Computers since the age of 8 and have been actively developing my skills ever since then. I'm also a father of 2 boys and find it fascinating how easily they've integrated technology into their lives, using their voices and touch for almost all interactions with computers. As a result of these observations I've been looking into how we can use a combination AI models like ChatGPT and Azure AI Services to help make products more approachable to users by allowing them to interact in a more natural manor.As a lead software engineer at Flagship I run (and line manage) a team of 7 developers working on the Microsoft technology stack. We have been slowly migrating an old WebForms desktop application into a modern Blazor WASM application for our in-house repairs system. We host everything in Azure using a combination of Azure Functions, Storage Accounts, Web Apps, SQL Databases, etc. Recently we've started working with .Net MAUI with Blazor bindings for a re-write of our tablet application. This project also uses Azure DevOps Pipelines for CI/CD and a mixture of Bicep and PowerShell for IaC. I've also helped introduce Azure DevOps across IT for project management, code repositories, etc.I have a passion for clean and optimised code and follow the GoF and Robert C Martin, especially his series on Clean Architecture. I follow popular events like Microsoft Build, NDC and our local NorDev scene. I spend a lot of my personal time working on independent projects as a way to learn new skills. I think it's incredibly important to stay up to date with our ever evolving industry.At Evoke Systems I worked exclusively on the Microsoft stack. I supported and developed a C# ASP. Net Web application for the aviation industry. It was a hybrid application that combined conventional Web forms with the newer MVC. I also helped introduce Angular with TypeScript as a more interactive UI for the training modules. Additionally I run Intrepid-Developer.com with my partner Gemma Finn. We develop bespoke software for individuals and small businesses. We made a custom built ASP MVC CMS for artist Charlotte Cory allowing her to focus on the content and not the framework. We are also currently working on a new system Intrepid Life that will help people gain valuable insights into their lives, helping them to manage their finances, life events, pets, cars, etc. We aim to infuse this new application with Azure AI Services to help with areas such as summarising their journals or providing a more natural way of interrogating their data.
