I played a key role in the development of the next generation server infrastructure for Microsoft datacenters. I was involved in developing the rack management component of the Mt. Olympus platform for the Open Compute Project. The rack manager is an ARM-based device running embedded Linux. I had several roles on this project including C library development, Python application code, Yocto build integration, and GIT repository management.
In my time at IMT, I have been involved in a wide range of different projects, the vast majority of which have involved working with various types of Linux systems. For these projects, I have been responsible for creating board support packages for Altera FPGAs with a Nios II processor using uClinux, Freescale i.MX6 ARM processors using U-Boot and Android or Yocto embedded Linux, and Intel x86 processors using CentOS. These BSPs often required new Linux drivers to be developed or existing drivers to be customized.Most of my time has been spent working on video receivers and decoders, the latest of which were developed using the i.MX6 processor. For these receivers, I designed a reusable software architecture using design patterns and other object-oriented principles that allowed for significant code reuse across several products. I also implemented most of the software for these systems in C++, using a test-driven development approach that resulted in robust software for the end products.As part of the development effort for these new receivers, I designed and developed a video decoding pipeline that would receive MPEG2 transport stream and present decoded video and audio. All tasks related to the decoding process, except for the actual decoding of the video frames, was done in software, including parsing some information out of MPEG4 NAL units and MPEG2 headers. The decoding pipeline was designed so the hardware accelerator used for the frame decoding could easily be changed between different systems. This architecture allowed the same decoding pipeline to run on both the i.MX6 processor using its VPU and an Intel x86 processor using Intel's VA API.

I was involved with two major projects while at BAE Systems. The first was a DARPA project for a new approach to wireless communications. For this, I developed much of the Linux MAC driver that was used to communicate with an FPGA-based PHY connected via PCI. In addition, I developed testing utilities that allowed for system testing while the PHY was under development, significantly reducing the total development time for the project.The second project was a situational awareness application developed in C# on Windows Mobile devices targeting military applications. I was the software lead on this project, designing the software architecture to provide voice calls, text chat, image sharing, and position tracking between users. I was also heavily involved in the code development, utilizing unit testing and continuous integration to ensure software reliability.
