Heading up all pre-sales, post-sales, and professional services engagements for SDN opportunities and projects. This role entails the understanding of business requirements and how to translate those into technical deliverables. I see the full life cycle for SDN projects, ensuring we adjust to any change in the situation.Proof of concepts and workshops are regularly delivered by myself or members of the team. These are presented to various audiences, from C-Level to highly technical with the focus of meeting their expectations with our chosen solution/technology.While VMware solutions are my primary focus, I am regularly involved in Cloud Networking discussions. Working mostly with AWS native Networking concepts, Azure and GCP are road-map items for myself and my team.

As the Network Technical Lead for the Claranet Cloud Business Unit, my main responsibilities are to guide the department in the design and deployment of SDN and NFV solutions, focused largely around VMware NSX and complementing technologies.Claranet recently revamped their private cloud, Claranet Cloud. The NSX design for this project was championed by myself, from conceptual to logical to physical. Working closely with Infrastructure Engineers and System Architects, I have ensured the platform is fit for purpose. This, coupled with our automate first attitude, allows us to deliver customer cloud platforms in under 5 minutes using VMware vRO.Professional Services, Pre-Sales and Post-Sales is a regular part of the role, ensuring customers are maximising Claranet Cloud or their dedicated solutions. Our customers are spread throughout the UK and Europe so regular travel is expected.Aside from NSX, there are numerous other technologies within the Network business unit such as Cisco, Juniper, Fortigate and F5 devices. While many of these are hardware-based, the business unit, under my direction, is pushing to virtualize these when appropriate

As a Senior Network Virtualization Engineer, I provided technical support to both staff and customers who are working to implement a VMware NSX platform and related products. Including but not limited to L2/L3 networking protocols; switching, routing, firewalling, load balancing, VPNs etc.In order to deliver a high level of work I must be experienced in UNIX kernel diagnostics, Windows Server and Desktop environments, Cloud Management Platforms, Clustering Technologies, technology solutions/languages/tools (e.g. CloudStack, OpenStack, AWS, Chef, Puppet, Python, API etc.).

As part of the GCI Network & Security team I work on the design, implementation, optimization and troubleshooting of all network infrastructure. This includes but is not limited to; load balancers, firewalls, routers and switches. Whilst predominantly network focused I also work on VMware, Linux and Windows infrastructure in order to assist different members within the team.Day to day tasks included resolving 3rd level incidents raised by the business and delivering key project tasks. The resolution of the incidents and project tasks are directly connected to service deliverables and/or improvement to customers or office services. Time was also dedicated to research and development in areas I felt was a benefit to the business or areas that were been identified as business interest.

Acting as head of access in the NGN (Next Generation Network) forced my role to become incredibly diverse. As the technical leader on Gibtelecom’s national VDSL2 (Very High-Speed Digital Subscriber Line) project, I was successful in delivering an IP/Switched network to host >90% of the nation's broadband connections. Carrier grade server infrastructure (hardware and software) was deployed to provide exceptional uptime for all services. Financial planning and project planning were a key part of the role to deliver a successful project on time and to budget.Now confident in access and core networking, server technologies and application integration provide proof in my ability to adapt and deliver business targets based on requirements. Clear and concise documentation has been written for logical and physical configurations, standard operating procedures and FAQs. Time was also spent researching and developing future technologies, such as FTTH (fibre to the home), IPTV and VoIP (Voice Over IP).

Working in the NGN Access team we were responsible for delivering the first instance of VDSL2 in Gibraltar. The delivery of a VDSL2 platform in Gibraltar upgraded broadband internet speeds tenfold. The new platform required new network and server infrastructure which was built from the ground up with shared responsibility between the team.The role allowed my skill set to develop in all areas, networking, server technologies, project and financial management. Documentation for all areas of the project was delivered to provide a clear understand of each area.

As the IP engineer for the mobile department, I was responsible for the stability and upgrade of IP related technology in the mobile network. Additionally planning and deploying IP scenarios for improved network performance and additional services. Other areas of my role, entailed server installation and configurations, at the end of my tenure I was successfully deploying a virtual environment using VMware.I was third line support for all technical queries regarding mobile and tablet configurations. This meant a vast amount of customer contact, which always received high reviews in our annual survey. The IP documentation was updated and improved, while all new services were documented thoroughly.

As a NOC technician my responsibilities would be to monitor, maintain and troubleshoot network issues. These issues would involve transit links and/or business customer, where the objective was to resolve the transit issue as quickly as possible while keeping the customer informed about happenings surrounding the issue. Ensuring all SOPs were up to date was a key part in this role.
