As Seminar Leader for Property Law, I draw from my extensive experience as a legal academic, educator and legal practitioner to guide my LLB students each week toward achieving course learning outcomes, including by exploring the breadth and depth of the subject matter in engaging ways.

The University of Newcastle is Australia's leading clinical law school and a melting pot of talent, technical ambition, and policy impact.As a course convenor of the core unit on civil dispute resolution, I challenged my students to examine procedural laws within their wider policy context and to develop critical advocacy and law reform skills while also becoming highly qualified and capable legal practitioners. I also had the privilege of working with experts in tort law and guiding cohorts of students through a complex substantive area of law.As this period spanned Covid-19 remote-working restrictions, it involved adapting to new pedagogies and delivering content in different modes. The rapid migration to online courses was an unavoidable feature of this time. Christie handled this with great success and glowing results in part due to her prior experience in developing and facilitating online legal education programs. Uniquely, transitioning online mid-semester involved a close and constant dialogue with students (our end-users) and a clear direction and approach to iteration. New pedagogies and ways of communicating were also necessary to ensure the same outcome could be expected withing an entirely different framework.In the spirit of coming together apart, I worked closely with our Alumni and VC offices to develop and roll out a mentoring program that bridges the gap between student and professional environments.Covid-19 had a disruptive impact on academic research, forcing academics to adapt and reprioritise their work and outputs. During this time Christie's research focus was on the substance and policy environments surrounding ageing and the law, human rights, end-of-life law and health law. This resulted in completing a second international edited volume with Routledge, entitled 'The Age-friendly Lens' and co-authoring a leading policy paper on specialist referral reforms with the Australian Hospitals and Healthcare Association's Deeble Institute.

Australia’s national university attracts an unrivaled blend of people occupying leadership roles, highly skilled advocates, political and community influencers, and those working at the intersection of research, innovation and policy design and implementation, enforcement, and regulation, from across Australia and around the world. Commencing my career as a legal academic at the ANU was an opportunity to contribute to a vibrant national ecosystem, to develop a systems-level view of law and legal systems and their impact on society, and to guide future generations of lawyers, scholars and professionals toward a future build on what is possible, not simply what is.The corpus of my academic research, publications, policy engagement and teaching at the ANU concerned ageing and law, end of life law and health law, which I examined across their substantive, theoretical and procedural domains. These areas have significant cross-over and will continue to be major social, economic and political drivers of this century.Holding ongoing positions of leadership and authority at a technical level and guiding the development of courses, programs and strategic initiatives that impacted the ANU, the Australian population and international audiences has shaped my ongoing passions and approach to stakeholder engagement, problem/solution identification, strategic analysis, technical and practical advice, stakeholder engagement, research translation and communication.Core experiences include designing, delivering, and assessing technical legal content in Wills, Estate Planning, Estate Administration, Estate Litigation, Civil Dispute Resolution, Professional Ethics and Property Law for large and diverse audiences; proposing and implementing initiatives that enhance the potential for impact and engagement at the micro, meso and macro levels of institutions and government, and contributing to knowledge on matters of public and international significance.
