Research funding opportunities and write grant proposals, LOIs, and fundraising appeals for nonprofit animal welfare organizations. Clients have included Heartland Farm Sanctuary (Stoughton, WI), Animals and Society Institute (Ann Arbor, MI), and The Killoe Group (Albany and New York, NY).

Substantively edit and copyedit dissertations and manuscripts (research projects, dissertations, and scholarly articles for publication) in education, English, biology, medicine, sociology, and anthropology.

Worked with campus faculty and staff to articulate projects and write federal, state, and foundation grant proposals that aligned with campus and department-level priorities. Managed the proposal development process, which included securing administrative approval for grant projects, creating work plans, and maintaining a proposal writing and editing schedule. Provided training for faculty and staff on pre-award processes and procedures.

Wrote and edited a range of client-facing materials, including business proposals, website content (e.g., blog posts), case studies, and staff biographies. Revised and edited the user manual for the firm’s upgraded prospect analysis software (DonorScape). Conducted client- and sector-specific research and tracked business opportunities in a relationship management system.

Conducted research and performed legislative analysis on bills related to animal welfare. Wrote and delivered testimony for proposed bills at public hearings (primarily at the Massachusetts State House) and accompanied staff to appointments with legislators. Drafted informational articles about animal welfare topics for regional publications.

Developed grant proposals and implementation plans that clearly linked project goals, outcomes, activities, timeframes, spending targets, and staff assignments. Supported the qualitative and quantitative data collection and analysis for college-wide grant outcomes. Collected, validated, and submitted data for quarterly national Integrated Postsecondary Education Data System (IPEDS) reporting.

Worked with product developers and sales staff to write proposals in response to district- and state-level requests for educational software and services. Developed and maintained text for proposal templates. Reviewed grant proposals prepared for schools and districts developing programs that incorporated Renaissance Learning products.

Taught first-year writing students critical reading, logical thinking, and effective communication skills by applying appropriate rhetorical strategies for a variety of audiences and purposes.

Taught first-year students rhetorical writing skills, including presentation of information, ideas, arguments, and research documentation. As a tutor, assisted students in strengthening their composition skills, such as writing strong theses, developing and supporting arguments, and improving sentence and paragraph structure. Provided feedback for creative writers and developed life skills writing, including college entrance essays, resumes, and cover letters.

Worked with local non-profits to research and pursue grant funding opportunities. Co-wrote a proposal that secured $20,000 in funding for a Milwaukee, WI group home. Gained experience using online grant research and funding resources, including the Foundation Center, Guidestar, Hoover’s Online, Catalog of Federal Domestic Assistance, and Grants.gov.

Served as the primary editor for a multimillion-dollar facilities plan, including maintaining an editing schedule, coordinating graphics staff and report authors, and maintaining a point of contact between client and editing team. Coordinated the digital library for the Milwaukee Metropolitan Sewerage District and developed a digital library user manual for the organization’s records management staff.
