Senior Intellectual Property Counsel
Current• Manage the patent portfolios for the biosystems engineering R&D, PIC (porcine) product development, and data science R&D departments which includes the technical areas of biotechnology, microfluidics, optics, cytometry, machine learning, machine vision, and information systems. Assist in the management of portfolios relating to gene editing, bioinformatics, assays, and reproductive biology.• Manage intellectual property litigation globally, including in the US, New Zealand, and India. Responsible for managing European opposition and revocation proceedings related to biosystems engineering. • Provide legal advice to business stakeholders and draft contracts, agreements, and memoranda on subjects including freedom to operate, new research projects, commercial products, collaborations, contracts, licenses, research agreements, and standard operating procedures.• Developed and implemented a worldwide trademark filing and prosecution strategy for Genus’ PIC and ABS businesses, and oversee Genus’ trademark prosecution, oppositions, and freedom to operate activities.• Led the development of internal policies relating to intellectual property management and continue to work on the dissemination and adherence to those policies which has resulted in increased efficiencies in the IP team and the increased capture of invention disclosure documents.
