I currently work for the City of Cedar Park as the Capital Projects Manager. Our department manages the design and construction of the city’s capital improvement projects including transportation, trails, drainage, facilities and parks. Duties for this position include management of in-house project managers, sub-consultant project managers as well as design consultants, construction companies, 3rd party representatives and material testing firms. Other duties include project selection, obtaining funding, scoping, issuing RFQ/RFPs, grading responses, city council presentations for selection, contract negotiation/execution, coordinating and managing all aspects of design, construction, change orders and budgets. We also respond to public questions and concerns as well as coordinate with other City departments, municipalities and government entities to resolve any issues that arise. I am a licensed civil engineer in four states with a total of 25 years of experience in construction and engineering. I started in heavy highway construction as a laborer, grade checker, equipment operator and worked my way up to superintendent/project manager. After 9 years in the field, I returned to school and earned a Bachelor of Science in Construction Engineering. After graduation I went back to heavy highway construction with a better understanding of the work for 5 more years. My previous construction experience includes building highways from open fields in NM & Colorado, a bicycle path through the Albuquerque Bosque and one landfill while closing the other in Roswell. I have worked on repair projects for some notable bridges including the San Mateo Bay bridge in California, the Taos Gorge bridge in New Mexico, Perrine Memorial bridge in Idaho, and all of the I-70 bridges between Glenwood Springs and Dotsero, Colorado. I took part in the Jamzilla 405 project in LA and project Neon in Las Vegas. In all I have worked with DOTs in nine states. In 2016 I went to work for a full-service engineering firm where I spent 5 years gaining the technical experience needed to earn a PE license. In my time there I was the designer of record for projects that include roadway, traffic signal, water, sewer, drainage, ADA compliance, and a 500K gal municipal water tank. I served as assistant Resident Engineer on several construction management projects for Imperial County California. I was also responsible for scheduling and coordinating our civil design team made up of a designer, surveyor, drafter and two junior engineers.
