As Education Historian I create and implement programming to interpret to varying audiences the history of Mississippi and the Old Capitol’s role in it. My responsibilities as Volunteer Coordinator include coordinating work schedules for numerous Department of Archives and History volunteers and interns. I called alumni to solicit donations for the university's annual fund. I did this for three to four weeks once a semester from my Sophomore year through my Senior year.

I became certified in black powder weapons and artillery through the National Park Service, I gave two separate tours throughout the week to groups of people from various backgrounds varying in size from two people to groups numbering over one hundred. I interpreted the Civil War and the time era associated with it to visitors. I interpreted ammunition, arms, clothing, and various other outdoor exhibits. I safely operated firing ranges for both black powder weapons and artillery.

I operated a cash register, made sure customers had a quality experience, made drinks and other products for customers and maintained a clean working area.

I worked in many facets, from working with community sponsors to accessioning and deaccessioning artifacts, to aiding in the processing of a collection taken from Clara Barton's Missing Soldiers Office. In addition I worked in outreach and aided in giving tours to local schoolchildren.

I served as the first college intern at the John Mosby Heritage Area, where I worked with fundraising, helped facilitate fundraisers and reunions, and developed a tour focusing on the struggle for Civil Rights in three surrounding towns.
