Duties involved teaching, conducting research in statistics, supporting other departments using statistical methods, and participating in committee work in the department and across the University. Courses taught included Introduction to Statistics, Calculus, Mathematical Statistics, Applied Regression, and other mathematics and statistics courses, to both majors and non-majors. Committee work involved diverse groups and charges, including but not limited to program reviews, search and screen committees, and budgeting of student monies.Selected Contributions:• Taught multiple sections of a variety of courses over the years. Some courses were introductory in nature, requiring reaching out to a broad variety of skills and abilities in the students. Some were more specific skills for majors in mathematics and statistics.• Authored 50+ page sets of notes for many of my courses, paraphrasing the important results from the textbook, but including hints and suggestions based on my years of experience.• Designed and developed curriculum and learning objectives for a variety of courses.• Created several new techniques in statistics, and published several results in professional journals. Presented results at numerous professional conferences.• Co-taught an online statistics course in the UW Data Sciences Master’s Degree program. The course depended heavily on the statistical programming language R.• Led the analysis to improve placement of incoming students in their first math course. Analysis involved decision trees and regression models.• Supported data analysis for several researchers from Education.• Developed elaborate spreadsheets for use in scheduling for department coursework.• Participated in professional reviews of textbooks and solutions manuals and creation of supplemental resources for several different publishers over the years. Some products were simple one page summaries while others were more elaborate Powerpoint presentations.

Full time employment, 1985-1987, in Washington, D. C.Half time employment, 1987-1991, in Bozeman, MTDuties included developing and implementing improvements to workload selection systems, designing and monitoring sampling projects, and applying statistical methodology to various functions of the IRS. Started at GS-9. Promoted to GS-11 after one year and to GS-12 after two years.Selected Contributions:• Explored the potential of using regression models in place of the discriminant functions then in place to determine profitability-to-audit for tax returns. The work was done remotely with minimal supervision.• Traveled to IRS Service Centers as needed to implement and monitor computer selection systems the Research Division had put in place. Duties involved ensuring the systems were working as planned and communicating with local analysts on improvements.
