Associate Staff Mechanical Engineer
Current• design of magnet core assembly and subsystems for segmented adaptive gap in-vacuum undulator for installation in synchrotron storage ring• coordinate with scientists, engineers, and technicians to plan and execute the preparation of a lab for assembly and magnetic measurements of prototype magnet core• prepare specifications for fabrication of components• coordinate with liaison engineers, procurement specialists, and vendors for the acquisition necessary materials and services• coordinate with safety engineers to ensure the acquisition of equipment was up to standards and if not ensure that they are modified such that they are compliant with safety standards, both laboratory and federal• assist in decommissioning of the Transmission X-ray Microscope (TXM) and transport to Advanced Photon Source (APS) at Argonne National Laboratory (ANL)• assist users in the design of experiments to be carried out using the Transmission X-ray Microscope• assist in the installation and commissioning of the TXM at APS
Associate Staff Mechanical Engineer
• measure magnets for elliptically polarized undulator• provide mechanical design support for Insertion Device (ID) group• wrote procedure for safe lock-out tag-out of an undulator• assist users in the operation of the Transmission X-ray Microscope (TXM) beamline endstation at the National Synchrotron Light Source (NSLS-I)

My primary responsibility is to design cells in which samples may be subjected to controlled environmental conditions simulating the working conditions in which a sample may be operating in, allowing for in situ studies of these materials using the sub-50-micron 3D spatial resolution and chemical spatial distribution capabilities of the Transmission X-ray Microscope (TXM) at Brookhaven National Laboratory's (BNL) National Synchrotron Light Source (NSLS).Typically this involves research in a wide range of fields including materials and mechanisms for the mechanical design of each cell, as well as implementation of process control systems and integration with the TXM environment. Coordination with users and beamline staff is also necessary to determine what capabilities are required from each cell for their particular experiments and what constraints must be addressed (i.e. "drifting" in images due to thermal expansion of TXM endstation optics). I design and execute testing and calibration of each cell and its support systems in the laboratory and in-line within the TXM for analysis of the system's capabilities and limitations. During operation of the cells, I aid in the operation of the cell and instruct users on the use of the cells. My secondary responsibilities include general maintenance of the TXM endstation and occasional assistance in the alignment of beamline optics and TXM endstation optics. In addition, I have been tasked with the mechanical design of critical components of an experimental prototype of a synchrotron insertion device.
Clerk
