*Supporting teachers in the journey to better engage students by developing better instructional strategies and classroom management skills. *Designated WASC Site Lead (Fall/2021 to Fall/2022 visit; Develop and ultimately author/edit the ECHS Self-Study Plan tin preparation for our 2022 Fall WASC Committee visit. Results produced "Excellent" review equaling the highest "Grade" ECHS has ever received! (6-year cycle with a 2 day visit.)*Observation and Evaluation of both certificated and classified staff.*Oversaw the following Departments.: Special Education, Athletics, ASB, USMC JROTC, Performing Arts, Visual Arts, Social Science, Science, English and CTE; Custodial staff, Security staff, Facilities & Operations , Student Services*Created and led Professional Learning Communities (PLCs) and Professional Development (PD) for staff. Most recently I led consecutive meetings centered upon “Building Literacy: Instructional Strategies General Education teachers should use with their English Learners”. Other topics include the standardization of curriculum & assessments and using the data to develop an intentional curriculum, identify strengths & weaknesses in instruction, and figure out how to improve as an educator. Other PD that I have led has focused on design thinking as well as Project Based Learning. (I am a strong believer that everybody learns differently and while PBL is great for certain kids and time frames. Hired in 2005 to run the Athletics Department. Served in capacity 2005-2014.*. Added Head Baseball Coach in 2006-2013. *. CHS athletic teams excelled under my leadership and CHS was selected as the top Athletic program in California. Our teams won many league and section championships, but more importantly, we consistently had top student-athletes who excelled in the classroom, as well. *. The baseball program won league titles in 2012 and 2013, for the first time in over 20 years and advanced to the CIF section title game after receiving the #1 seed in 2013. 6 former players their baseball career in Major League Baseball and/or the NCAA.After 7 years as the A.D., I returned to the classroom as I prepared for a career shift to Assistant Principal. I spent 3 years building the sophomore Advanced Placement European History program. Much like our athletic department, I was able to build the program from what was inherited, (3 sections of roughly 50 students at a pass rate of 74%), to over 200 students passing the AP exam at 73%!!! This was achieved through the creation of a dynamic and rigorous curriculum that challenged students while maintaining high expectations for every student in the class. The motivation was successful and these kids were amazing!I was able to utilize and build upon my strengths as a leader through the effective means of program building, designing rigorous, yet relevant curriculum and using my ability to successfully motivate. It is this last value that I believe achieves the greatest success. It quite simply is effective relationship building. I am a firm believe in building and maximizing the social capital in and around our school system and community. By effectively engaging those "stakeholders" who comprise our social capital, goals are set and met.

I began working in OUSD as a security guard, athletic coach and substitute teacher until I completed my teaching credential and was hired full-time in 1997. Upon being hired, I taught World History and Advanced Placement Comparative Politics. As a PLC, we designed a World History Curriculum that served as a rigorous prerequisite for the Sophomore AP course that I also taught. This would serve as the formative experiences that provided a solid foundation for my career as a very successful builder of programs. In AP Comparative Politics, and later European History, my co-teacher and I revolutionized the curriculum in a low socio-economic, Title 1 school, and grew the program from 40 students passing the national AP exam at 76%, to 7 sections of roughly 180 students passing at nearly 74%. As a result, in 2004, El Camino High School was featured in several national publications including, US News & World Report, for successfully reducing the achievement gap among all of our socioeconomic populations groups.
