Ordained priest in Hereford in 1967 and served in that diocese as R,E teacher and Adviser, and Diocesan Director of Education responsible for the development of buildings, curriculum and in-service training in 119 Church schools. Became a Prebendary of Hereford Cathedral.In 1981 moved to be an Incumbent in Guildford diocese and became responsible for the in-service training of new clergy. Became an honorary Canon of Guildford Cathedral.Archdeacon in Guildford diocese and responsible with others for the care of clergy and church buildings (1990-95) Bishop of St Albans (1995-2009); member of the House of Lords (1999-2009), served on Select committee looking at Assisted Dying, and on pre-legislative committee looking at ethical issues in human fertilisation.In retirement, was selected as a NADFAS lecturer and lecture in Art History across the UK, in northern Europe and on cruise ships.Have been a guest lecturer at Westminster Abbey, the National Gallery and the Courtauld Institute,the Salisbury International Arts Festival.Since 2010 an unpaid Non-Exec of the Abbeyfield Society. Regular speaker at conferences about the spiritual, pastoral and religious care of older people..Regular guest lecturer for the Windsor Leadership Trust on Qualities of Leadership, and lead study days for clergy and others on Art and Theology.Lecturer at pre-retirement days for clergy.An honorary assistant bishop in the dioceses of Guildford, Chichester, Salisbury and Winchester. An honorary citizen of Fano, Italy.My major interests lie in the fields of art history,the care of older people, and medical ethics, as well as in theology.
