The focus of the role is on the production of technical deliverables, whilst also undertaking project management, proposal development and client, regulator and stakeholder interactions.In this role, I have provided significant support to Nuclear Restoration Services (NRS):- I was one of the key contributors to a recent (2020) update of the Dounreay LLW Disposal Facilities Environmental Safety Case (ESC), in support of an application to vary its radioactive substances regulation (RSR) permit. As part of this work, I updated the pre-existing radiological safety assessment GoldSim model, led authorship of the associated safety assessment report, and, subsequently, redeveloped the model to improve transparency and allow for easier future use.- I supported NRS in the production of regulatory compliance (GRR) documentation for their Magnox-type reactor and nuclear research sites in England and Wales. As part of this work, I led authorship of the 2023 Trawsfynydd Site-wide Environmental Safety Case (SWESC) head document, one of the two primary documents that support the first-of-a-kind RSR permit variation application to allow for on-site disposal of radioactive waste at the Trawsfynydd site. I also led or supported the development of multiple natural evolution radiological safety assessments (implemented in GoldSim) for the Berkeley, Dungeness A, Trawsfynydd and Winfrith sites, which assessed the potential impacts of on-site and in-situ disposal of radioactive waste.For Nuclear Waste Services, I am currently leading a review and supporting bias auditing of the updated LLWR groundwater pathway assessment, which is planned to form part of the LLWR 2026 ESC, and reporting on the lithological characteristics of geological groups in Cumbria, as part of the development of a site descriptive model in support GDF site evaluation.
