About Christopher Kline
I am a researcher interested in bridging the fields of exercise science and sleep medicine. My research focuses on examining the utility of exercise for the management of sleep disorders, understanding the cardiovascular and metabolic consequences of disturbed sleep, and studying how behavioral interventions such as exercise reduce cardiometabolic disease risk through improved sleep. I also have a long-standing interest in studying the impact of sleep and circadian rhythms on athletic performance, and specifically how these factors may be used to optimize performance. I received graduate training in exercise science and sleep medicine at the University of South Carolina under the mentorship of Dr. Shawn Youngstedt, and completed postdoctoral training at the University of Pittsburgh Center for Sleep and Circadian Science under the mentorship of Drs. Martica Hall and Dan Buysse. I am currently an Associate Professor in the Department of Health and Human Development. Current NIH-funded projects examine: (1) the impact of a sedentary behavior reduction intervention on sleep among desk workers with elevated blood pressure; and (2) the isolated and combined associations of insomnia and short sleep duration on subclinical cardiometabolic risk.
