Manager and Technical Lead of the Digital Care team that owned GoDaddy’s Help Center.In my first year, I accomplished the following:Architected a new Help Center system and replaced an aging, bug-prone, and difficult to maintain legacy codebase: - Currently serving 6,000+ requests a minute across 55+ countries localized into 25 different languages - Tech choices include: TypeScript, React, Next.js, Node.js, GraphQL, ElasticSearch, Redis, Kubernetes - 100% of code is written in TypeScript - Project completed in ~6 monthsMigrated all content to Contentful (3rd party CMS), replacing a legacy in-house php/MySQL application: - Worked closely with writing team to make sure their requirements were met, giving them more control over content and the user experience within the Help Center - Worked with internal teams automate the localization of all help content into 25 different languagesIntroduced Typescript and GraphQL to our organization, taking the time to mentor individual team members and help them run up the learning curve quicklyWhile leading development efforts, I was also made manager of my team. I coordinated with project managers, product owners, and designers to overhaul our processes to greatly increase the productivity (and happiness) of our team. Migrated major features and infrastructure powering a SaaS product with 7,000+ daily users from a monolith to containerized microservices running on AWS. As one of the first engineers on the team tasked with this work, I was personally responsible for major technical decisions as well as hiring.Specific accomplishments include:- Introduced reliable event-based asynchronous communication between microservices using Kafka and protocol buffers- Architected a system of gRPC and GraphQL microservices that serve the needs of customer facing UIs, data processing, and data warehousing- Hired 15 awesome engineers and coordinated parallel work across teams

While contributing to the web UI that sets LogRhythm apart from its competitors, I also recognized gaps in the backend services powering that UI. I became an evangelist for creating good APIs, separation of concerns, and replacing complex solutions with simple ones by truly understanding the problem at hand.Some noteworthy achievements:• Owned the end to end implementation and design of features in a large front end application made using AngularJS 1.X with a strong focus on user experience and maintainability of the code base.• Architected a system for reliable config distribution across an arbitrary deployment of microservices. • Created a tool to generate HTTP API service code from a swagger specification to ensure validation of requests and highly informative error messages when that validation fails, all while guaranteeing that the server side code never drifts from the API documentation via compile time checks.

This position (and small business) was born out of the idea that companies have lots of separate applications and need a way to customize them and get them to talk to one another. My time at Houndstooth has been spent working with dozens of clients directly, from initial project scoping to going live, on an even higher number of different applications. Each project was completely custom tailored to the client's needs, however some common styles of projects included:- integrating two large enterprise web applications (ie. Salesforce and Microsoft Dynamics) via their APIs- adding on features to web applications, like dashboards showing custom reporting metrics- custom upload automations, in which flat files would be read, deserialized, and pushed into to an application via its APIProgramming work was typically done in C#, with some Node.js used when the project called for it.
