I worked in the area of Metabolomics/Metabolic Imaging in Cancer. I planned, coordinated, designed, and carried out research projects relating to NMR-based in vitro metabolomics in human and animal tissue samples with and without malignancies. I was responsible for developmental work in studies on low-grade and high-grade cancer biopsies working with the PI and other collaborators within the institution. Also was responsible for all aspects of the program: chemistry, biochemistry, NMR spectroscopy data acquisition, processing of data and interpretation of data arms of the project. The results of these metabolomics studies served as a foundation to design and develop new imaging agents that could be used with hyperpolarized in vivo NMR to detect cancer at earlier stages and to more accurately diagnose specific types of cancer. Ultimately, this research should lead to earlier, more effective, targeted use of current therapies in addition to entirely new anti-cancer therapeutics.
