Hello! My name is Chris, I am currently based in Tokyo working as an English instructor. I really enjoy my job and am wanting to shift into a longer career within Japan, hopefully Tokyo. I love connecting with new people, working together with others as a team, achieving goals, and challenging myself. This summer, I will challenge myself by taking the JLPT N3 exam. At the beginning of college, I was a very shy student, never wanting to leave my bubble, only doing the bare minimum to get by in life. I knew I had to change this and it wasn't the life I wanted. So, I decided to set a big challenge for myself, hoping for change. This was to study abroad at Sophia University in Tokyo for a year. It seemed very crazy at the time, but I knew if I put in the effort and time, I could make it happen. At the school, I was really able to challenge myself and develop more as a person. Making lots of connections with new people and joining many school clubs, including the Sophia International Student Exchange council. I was very nervous and it was very challenging at the time, but I kept pushing myself. There, I was able to work alongside many Japanese and foreign students to set up events around Tokyo with the goal of bringing together international and native students. I also used my connections to branch outside of the school, joining various volunteer jobs, as well as participating in a matsuri. After studying abroad, I wanted to keep challenging myself with new things. I joined to become a “conversation partner” at my home school. Helping international students with their English pronunciation. I gave speeches at the school to inspire other students to study abroad. I wanted to further broaden my knowledge of other cultures and joined classes, such as “International Business”. It was very fascinating learning how “high context” and “low context” cultures affect the way countries do business. All this to further better myself and to feel a sense of accomplishment when I achieve certain goals that I set. Whatever the task is I want to complete it and be successful at it.Now, I have been living in Japan for 3 years and am looking for the next challenge! I am open to any job offers, please feel free to reach out, and hope you enjoy reading my profile :)
