In April off that year, I took up a Quantity Surveying position in Dungannon and Belfast for house builders Alskea again on a self-employed basis.They are a housing developer who also undertake work for several private and public clients, on one off houses or other developments, they also purchase property for development and sell themselves.I prepared BOQ for housing scheme in Belfast while assisting in managing another. I undertook tendering, contract formation, coordination and appointment of labour for these works to be completed. However after a period, I no longer felt any further desire to continue working within construction I no longer had the desire to travel for long distances each day/ every week to work. I had been undertaking very long working days including travelling at this point and a decision was made to stop on this basis. In no way was this a reflection of Alskea as they were a great contractor to work with, just circumstances surrounding my desire to live and work close to home meant I changed career.

I started working for myself in April 2015 offering freelance QS, construction manager services and Health and safety reviews to both sub-contractors and main contractors alike.During my time working as a freelance QS, I was offered work with Sizebreed construction on a long-term contract basis in London.I opened a company in the UK to facilitate this.I was the Senior QS on 47 Belgrave Square during this time. This was a 3-year refurbishment project that was already 26 months in at the time off my arrival. The final account for this project was overseen and I ensured the closure off all elements off final account on both the client and subcontractor side.I reported to the managing surveyor, Commercial director and MD on this project, but I was the sole financial and operational surveyor on this Job.All orders and procurement from my commencement was completed and/or overseen by meIn May 2017, I commenced working on another high-end refurbishment for a property in 15A Kensington palace Gardens as the Senior QS for Sizebreed also. I was responsible for 2 other QS’s on this project and reported to the group commercial director, and the managing Surveyor.While I enjoyed my time with Sizebreed/ The size Group and gained a lot of experience in a very different and exciting market, I made the decision to vacate my onsite position on November 2017.I was commuting back and forth to Ireland every weekend to see my daughter but after 18 months doing this, I wanted to return to Ireland for good.I continued to work remotely up until March 2018 with Sizebreed

I started working for myself in April 2015 offering freelance QS, construction manager services and Health and safety reviews to both sub-contractors and main contractors alike.Initially I worked on a 10-month contract with one contractor (Mcdermott and Trearty) based in Dublin on two new build school extensions and worked as a health and safety consultant for a main contractor (Mccallion Construction) involved in constructing LIDL stores both in Ballina and Banbridge.I adapted quickly to these projects and having started out with one contract and this was quickly followed by a further project.Although possessing Health and safety accreditation, QS requests and opportunities within that line of work made me move away from health and safety contracts completely but I was always interested for the welfare of others even within these contracts.

This was a site based role in which my Duties included estimating and tendering, business development, agreeing supplier and subcontractor accounts, Managing on site labor, procurement of sub-contractors and all cost management related to my projects. I initially took this role on a temporary contract basis; however I managed three distinct projects in my time there. Storm were a great company to work for and I gained alot of my experience in School, hospital and office refurbishment here.

Morrowstone was a family run company stone supply and Construction Company with an annual turnover at its peak of circa €2.9 million. My daily duties included the day to day running of the business, where I was in charge of sales orders, ensuring delivery times were met, invoicing and purchases, logistical management, sales, contract management, tendering and other staff members.I formed numerous good relations during my time there with suppliers, customers, sub-contractors and staff alike.I worked on a variety of different projects in different markets during this time, this included tendering, procurement and project management off a large variety off projects. Notable clients and projects included Dublin Zoo savannah park, Adam Clayton Estate (U2), Siac Construction (River Dodder banking and cladding), OPW (Various) and County Council work during my time there.I oversaw the successful sale of the Company in December 2010 even though difficult economic circumstances existed within the construction industry during this period.

Adrem was/is an internal refurbishment contract firm based in London .This company paid for my college fees as a quantity surveyor and I would attend college one day per week during the college term and work four days full time. My Duties included estimating and tendering, agreeing supplier rates, checking invoices, filing, general office duties and agreeing final accounts. Within six months of being employed there I was given the responsibility of managing my own projects right from tendering to completion phases
