I work in environmental ethics, the ethics of emerging technologies, and ecology. I have written four books on topics ranging from wildlife recovery to Anthropocene technologies to a biography of a leading environmental philosopher. I have published over forty peer-reviewed journal articles and my essays have appeared in The Atlantic, Smithsonian, Discover Magazine, Slate, Aeon, The Conversation, and The BBC. I'm interested in the clean energy economy from angles that include natural climate solutions (especially those involving wildlife), industrial-scale CDR, heat pumps, and EVs. I edited the first book on the ethics of climate engineering and have been invited to speak in my areas of expertise to audiences in North America and Europe. I have been the Distinguished Visiting Professor in the Ethics of the Anthropocene at Vrije University in Amsterdam. I'm the current holder of the Andrew Light Award for Public Philosophy from the International Society for Environmental Ethics.I'm putting my shoulder to the wheel on both the biodiversity and climate crises. My new book, Tenacious Beasts, finds possibilities for cultural transformation in wildlife species back from the brink.
