I am a post-doctoral research associate at the University of Connecticut’s Human Rights Institute and an International Security Program fellow at Harvard's Belfer Center for Science and International Affairs. I study insurgencies, civil resistance movements, and their effects on societies and governments.Primarily, my research tries to explain why some conflicts lead to worse subsequent human rights outcomes than others, and what policies help overcome their harmful legacies. This research draws on a diverse array of methods, such as elite interviews, large-n observational studies, and quasi-experimental research designs. My work has been featured in the Journal of Global Security Studies, the Journal of Peace Research, and by Political Violence at a Glance and the International Institute for Strategic Studies.
