About Christopher Skinner
My core work is as a public servant at the Environment Agency working at the science-policy-practice interface for hydrology in the UK. I work with academics and practitioners to develop new operational approaches to improve the way we plan for flooding.Outside this role (views are my own), I continue my research and science communication practice as a visiting researcher at the University of Hull and my own venture, FloodSkinner. I am particularly interested in the use of game-based approaches to building model literacy and better understanding of model ethics, for both modellers and non-modellers.I have a research background and publications in a diverse range of areas, notably hydrology, geomorphology, numerical modelling, and immersive storytelling.I have been described as EGU's "game guy" and have been the lead convenor for the popular Games for Geoscience and Geoscience Games Night sessions since they started in 2018. I maintain and write for the Games for Geoscience website, including the monthly newsletter, Gaming Environments.
Listed skills include Gis Analysis, Gis Applications, Gis, Ms Office Suite, and 22 others.

Research Fellow - Flood Resilience
Postdoctoral Research Assistant In Modelling Fluvial Geomorphology
My role is to investigate the geomorphic impacts of Flash Flooding from Intense Rainfall (FFIR) as part of NERC funded SINATRA (Susceptibility of Catchments to Flooding and Intense Rainfall), part of the wider NERC-FFIR programme. My current research is enhancing the CAESAR-Lisflood model to better represent FFIR events, including understanding how the spatial and temporal resolution of rainfall inputs influences the model results.
Research Assistant In Modelling Estuarine Morphodynamics
My principal role is numerical modelling of the hydrology and morphodynamics of the Humber estuary, using GIS and the CAESAR-Lisflood model."Dynamic Humber is a research project developed at the University of Hull through the Centre for Adaptive Science and Sustainability (CASS) and supported through the Higher Education Innovation Fund. This project brings together scientists from a variety of disciplines to investigate the impact of environmental change on the long-term… Show more My principal role is numerical modelling of the hydrology and morphodynamics of the Humber estuary, using GIS and the CAESAR-Lisflood model."Dynamic Humber is a research project developed at the University of Hull through the Centre for Adaptive Science and Sustainability (CASS) and supported through the Higher Education Innovation Fund. This project brings together scientists from a variety of disciplines to investigate the impact of environmental change on the long-term (2000-2100) physical, social and economic state of the Humber estuary and East coastal margin" - from dynamic-humber.org.uk Show less
