I started at Scotts Miracle-Gro as just a warehouse worker looking for a job. I showed up every day ready to work with a smile on my face. My work ethic and can do attitude was noticed by management and I was promoted to the shipping office.In the shipping office, I was able to leverage my knowledge of the layout of the warehouse to facilitate more efficient load handling by the checkers. I learned about yard and dock management, intermodal, international logistics and how to build relationships with our carriers. After a year in the shipping office, I was encouraged to take on more responsibility and I joined the materials planning team. On the materials team I was responsible for a number of different areas. I learned about inbound train management, Sarbanes-Oxley compliance, just-in-time ordering, and supplier relationships. It was during this period of time that I decided to go back to college and got my degree in Finance and Business Operations. I also won my first award with the company for helping in the shipping office when the shipping supervisor suddenly left.After a few years of hard work I was able to apply the finance portion and join the orders to cash team. I started on the Walmart team in accounts receivable. By bringing a new perspective to the role, I was able to challenge previously under disputed claims and was able to get back over $100,000 in money that was ours. I won associate of the month and my second award for those efforts. Now I work in the independent group of orders to cash with a focus on making processes more efficient by utilizing SAP more fully.
