I handle high-stakes litigation in state and federal court, and focus on construction law and complex commercial disputes. My experience includes construction defects, public contracts and bid protests, shareholder disputes, business conspiracies, real property disputes, international sales, arbitration, mediation, early dispute resolution, and other matters. I also assist companies and other institutions responding to government investigations and enforcement actions, as well as internal compliance referrals and similar investigations. Finally, I regularly serve institutions of higher education as a hearing officer for the adjudication of Title IX and other student or employee conduct matters, and have advised those institutions on compliance with federal and state law.I was recognized in the 2023 Legal Elite conducted annually by Virginia Business magazine. In 2015, I received the Light of Justice Award from the Texas Defender Service, for work on the capital habeas filings on behalf of Alfred Dewayne Brown, who was exonerated after serving ten years on death row. I live in Charlottesville with my wife and three young children. When I'm not in the courtroom, I enjoy exploring the steepest parts of the Blue Ridge mountains, whether on foot, by ski, or in a kayak.
