I have both a Bachelor’s Degree from the University of Delaware and a Doctorate from the University of Maryland in entomology, and am well educated in general entomology, especially in insect identification. My area of expertise is in pest management, and my dissertation explored an interesting aspect of the biology of an important nuisance pest in the US, the brown marmorated stink bug. I also have studied the biology, behavior, and identification of a number of other insect pests over the course of my academic career, including subterranean termites, ants, the Asian long horn beetle, Asian tiger mosquito, and spotted wing drosophila.I also have a significant amount of teaching experience, and have been recognized for my teaching with a number of departmental awards. I was a TA for 9 semesters, and taught insect biology and identification to non- major undergraduates. I also have experience with the development of course materials and presentations for both an undergraduate course and a graduate seminar. This, in addition to my other experiences at professional meetings and volunteering, has made me an experienced presenter and communicator who can successfully interact with people from a wide range of backgrounds, including growers, homeowners, the general public, academics, and children.
