  • Century Aluminum
    Senior Systems Administrator
    Century Aluminum Dec 2014 - Apr 2016
    Owensboro, Kentucky Area
This is a fun and challenging position where I will get to do a plethora of tasks involving many different technologies. Mainly working in VMware, Exchange, and Active Directory. I will gain lots of experience as well as some new hands on time with Cisco UCS. This is a great position for me and I fit in very well with the team. I expect great things will come from this team up as I will learn a lot and hone my skills, and Century just acquired an excellent employee.
  • Apex Systems
    Vmware Engineer
    Apex Systems Dec 2013 - Dec 2014
I am working on the VM team as a VM Engineer. I still maintain the Virtual Machine backups but am handling the day to day configuration and maintenance that comes with a large Virtual environment (1500+ servers of multiple OS version). This also includes the infrastructure on the VDI environment as well serving over 200 desktops to our users. We are making full use of HA and DRS and have multiple machines with RDMs so those are things that I am required to work with my team daily to maintain. Current project is upgrading our 5.1 environment to 5.5. All hosts, vCenter servers, datastores, vmversions, and vmtools are included with this upgrade.*Prior to Team Change*In this position I was part of a team of 4 that maintain backups for over 2000 servers. Of those servers, approximately 1500 are virtual machines. These backups include duplicate copies, encryption, offsite storage, and WAN backups. I am using NetBackup 7.5 running on RedHat Linux. I am using the Quantum Scalar i500 and i6000 libraries that use around 2600 tapes that are a mix of LTO4 and LTO5. I feel very comfortable in this position because I am strong with the software and understand disaster recovery concepts very well. I work on the team in charge of a COOP warm site for our current environment. This also includes keeping our current backup environment efficient using a variety of technologies such as double form of deduplication. We use a SAN with the ability to dedupe the data at the SAN level, and then use NetBackup to provided an additional dedupe of that data.
  • Ntt Data
    System Engineer
    Ntt Data May 2013 - Jan 2014
This is a great position in a fun environment with awesome co-workers. I mainly monitor VMware logs and alerts for both Hosts and Guests. Document out of date lists of server hardware specs and software applications, this is kept on the intranet using a web based software. I have had opportunities to re-purpose virtual guests that were not being used and had been forgotten. From this we were not only able to gain back unused IP addresses but system resources as well. I have been a key player in troubleshooting and repairing production server outages within our virtual environment. I assisted in building and configuring Server 2012 servers for upcoming applications. With help from the team lean, I learned enough to build out our DEV environment for BizTalk 2010, that was a new challenge with software and databases that I was able to win. I helped in the migration of Raw Device Mappings to string SQL virtual disks together for fail over clustering. I have also made Lightweight Directory queries to help tie applications to Active Directory authentication. So far there have been some great experiences gained and I look forward to more.
  • Teksystems
    System Engineer
    Teksystems Feb 2013 - May 2013
This was a one man operations so I was the sole person in charge of managing all systems and server operations within the organization. Daily operations included monitoring reporting within Solar Winds LEM to ensure Security, Responsible for all VMware functions with hosts to include Guest OS operation and ESX health checks. I managed the day-to-day backups and performance of the backup process. Since this was a solo-run position, I was the single point of contact for design and purchase of new hardware systems for our expanding environment.I handled all Server configurations and builds both virtual and physical. I was very handy at creating technical documentation for systems and procedures. I designed and implemented a new patch and reboot schedule for our Windows servers using WSUS and Group Policy. While I didn't know much about it, I did manage to maintain the McAfee ePO Suite to include setting up the Mac OS Client and keeping all clients in compliance. Our environment there ran only thin clients using VMware so I had to manage the hosts for the VDI's as well as the weekly updates and golden image for the systems.
  • Tempur Sealy International
    Infrastructure Engineer
Tempur Sealy International Feb 2009 - Feb 2013
This was a jack of all trades position. I worked with a team of people responsible for everything. When I say everything, I mean that is what our team supported within the company. The service desk and infrastructure team collaborated and worked as one so escalations were handled in a timely manner as well as alertness of issues with not only outages but slowness of applications. This along with our strong team of talented individuals, allowed for a quicker resolution for issues and helped the team grow together. We managed lots of applications and services. Some of the more prominent being Active Directory, MS Exchange, Server 2003, 2008, 2008R2, 2012, VMware, Symantec End Point Protection, NetBackup, Sharepoint, Terminal Services, and MS Deployment Toolkit. I was one of the senior members and acted as a team lead on a number of occasions.
