As 2025 is upon us, my focus is shifting to a healing, life transition, and crisis management consultancy, an exciting roster of retreats in Aspen and worldwide focused on the same issues, and in the background two philanthropic projects. In addition, I am following doctor's orders to lighten the load a bit this winter to get a handle on a precancerous condition I will speak a bit about in upcoming posts. On November 3rd I completed the final 5,000 miles of an epic, 20,000-mile, decade-long circumnavigation of the United States that I picked away in-between raising my children, business interests, and a few health issues that I write about in a long delayed but now forthcoming book available for pre-order soon. This election was a major milestone and the closing of not just a chapter of my life, but an entire book. Before I closed that book, I began another one. In 2018 I returned to a small ranching community just outside Aspen I fell in love with decades ago. I arrived pretty beat up from the above mentioned health issues - as my docs said, "just about dead." For the first two months I lived at Aspen Meadows, and while in a lot of pain after an emergency spina surgery, and contemplating existence, I wrote a manifesto about meaning, purpose, and a life worth living. What I learned in the ensuing years became the material for a second book, My Magical Year: Healing, Rebirth and Redemption in Mountains, Oceans and Deserts. It is also the curriculum for Magical Year Retreats' yacht, villa and equine based workshops. In my hotel room, I literally wrote my future. I am not surprised that in a circuitous and imperfect way, most of what I wrote came true. Words have meaning and for achieving goals my favorite is intent, in Webster's "having the mind, attention, or will concentrated on something or some end or purpose." My intention was to heal my mind, body, and spirit, and leverage what I learned during a very tough decade to help others, and live a challenging and adventurous life as a writer, interviewer, and expedition leader - a life of meaning and purpose. I know no finer existence.
