Thesis - “Effects of chromium contamination on the soil microbiome and phytoremediation potential of crop plants” Received a Studentship for my doctoral research Conducted GIS spatial analysis mapping out extent of pollution by tanneries, mapping soils moisture content and mapping foliage cover.  Conducted extensive soil properties and pollution analysis of chromium and other heavy metals using ICP-OES and Discrete analyser. Analysed large data sets to deliver comprehensive study field and greenhouse studies towards my PhD and towards publications.  Consulted with FERA to optimise successful Soil organism DNA extraction, creating protocol successfully sequencing for multiple organisms from a single pooled library.  Mentored 10 undergraduate and master students and trained 5 research assistants in experimental development, sample processing and analysis and health and safety protocols. Taught labs and advised students on coursework in statistics, soil and plant analysis, GIS, molecular analysis and microbiology. Delivered oral presentations at several conferences relating to soils pollution, soil community and analysis and phytoremediation. Effective and persuasive delivery of scientific findings through meetings with external colleagues and scientific conferences. Project managed large scale project in India, leading a team of researchers in collecting large data set leading to extensive analysis of pollution via tanneries in Dindigul, India

 Supervised field research, managing a team to carry out sample collection and analysis to a strict schedule. Trained assistants in comprehensive use of crucial machinery. Developed and delivered a successful method of soil community DNA extraction and sequencing to a high standard, working with FERA to produce large genetic data sets with subsequent successful analysis through Qiime 2. All towards a European Science Commission Interreg project, working internationally with multiple other institutions. Development of grant ideas and postdoctoral research opportunities focused of carbon sequestration and its effect on soil microbial communities within agroforestry systems.

 Trained extensively in the use of equipment including ICP-OES, Discrete analyser, LC-MS and GC-MS Supported multiple labs and research projects for both students and researchers of several disciplines, providing assistance, expertise, methodologies and techniques to ensure high quality research output and learning experiences.
