After completing boot camp and four months of job-specific training, I started my naval career as a construction mechanic. For three years, I completed routine and overhaul maintenance on construction equipment necessary for the command to conduct its mission effectively. During this time, I was promoted twice and also achieved an optional qualification, Seabee Combat Warfare, that showed I gained sufficient knowledge in leading patrols, setting up defensive perimeters, chemical warfare defense measures, and combat medical aid. For surpassing expectations, I was recognized and allowed to participate in a humanitarian deployment in South East Asia for four months. During the deployment, I met many amazing people and experienced several cultures while doing life-changing work for the locals in need. During our four months, we built new restrooms for a kindergarten in Sri Lanka, a new elementary school in Vietnam, and a cafeteria in Malaysia while hosting medical clinics, food banks, and cooperative personnel training with the service members in foreign militaries. This experience and seeing firsthand the impact it had on the locals' lives will stick with me forever, and it is what drove me to pursue a career where I could continue to give back. After returning home from the deployment, I was given roles as a supply and parts manager for a year and a shop supervisor for my final year in the Navy. In July 2019, I accepted my honorable discharge for five and a half years of service and decided to move back home to pursue my college education and a dream career of helping those in need.
