About Chuck Sullivan
I am a multi disciplined engineer that loves getting his hands dirty with hardware. My focus is in robotics, in-space assembly/manufacturing, and spacecraft. On the mechanical side, I have participated in multiple sounding rocket payload programs as a lead mechanical engineer. In that role, and with experience as a machinist, I was responsible for design and manufacture as well as ensuring our payload met testing requirements such as vibration tests and electrical isolation. This included developing subsystem testing and procedures to verify proper operation and adherence to project requirements. I have also worked as a test engineer for composite leading-edge components in hypersonic and re-entry conditions. Finally, I am well versed in the use of vacuum systems to simulate the challenges of the space environment. On the electrical side, I am well versed in various sensor technologies, circuit design, and analysis, also with hardware focus. I have experience in generating complex robotic systems that are not unlike the systems that would be required for a test engineering position. I have experience in breadboarding, soldering, and PCB design. Additionally, I am familiar with the use of various lab equipment such as oscilloscopes and power supplies/function generators. My experience with software in robotics has prepared me for various applications. The implementation and automation of all subsystems is key to a successful testing operation. I am well versed in C++, Matlab, LabView, Python, Verilog, embedded systems, and FPGAs. Lastly, my thesis involved developing an intimate understanding of the state of the art for reinforcement learning techniques for robotics control law development. I developed an entire modular robotics framework and successfully got a soft robot to learn optimal control by experimenting and learning on its own. My knowledge and real-world experience in all three major disciplines give me the ability and confidence to learn and adapt quickly to new concepts and requirements.
Listed skills include Solidworks, Simulink, Matlab, Esprit Cam Software, and 18 others.
