I was an Operations Controller in the Operations Control Centre (OCC) at Stobart Air until July. The OCC is at the heart of any airline. Airline Safety, Customer Satisfaction, Efficiency, Cost Reduction and On-Time Performance (OTP) are massively influenced by daily systems management in the OCC. The Operations Controller is the lead role in the OCC on the day of operations. I manage a team including Crew Controller and the Customer and Handling Coordinator. Good decision making, resilience, expecting the unexpected and the ability to work under pressure as an operations controller in the OCC are vital to the safe, legal and smooth running of the airline. The many skill-sets required for this role are highly transferable to other sectors where constant control room monitoring, adapting to different IT platforms, staying ahead of the game by thinking on your feet are essential.After years of experience and a strong educational background in operations, the control room environment is where I feel most at home.
