For over 20 years I have dedicated my work to harm reduction substance use treatment. At times this has involved working in syringe access programs and prisons, other times in medical case management, individual counseling and group work. I value personalized and creative drug treatment which incorporates interventions that allow individuals to guide their own process. I use Motivational Interviewing, Mindfulness Based Relapse Prevention, and Creative Arts in my work.I regularly participate in efforts to establish sensible drug policies which decrease criminalization, address issues of stigma and promote human rights for individuals who use drugs. I work to increase the physical and mental wellbeing of people who use drugs and their communities.I am an excellent trainer/lecturer and enjoy imparting knowledge regarding harm reduction, HIV, mental health and many other topics.I have strong research skills in community assessments and Community Based Participatory Research.I am trained in the use of Restorative Practices to support social service agencies build stronger communities and increase successful outcomes within the populations they work with.I am a native Spanish speaker. I have been a member of the Board of Directors of the Harm Reduction Therapy Center (2011-2018) and am a member of the San Francisco Dept of Public Health Substance Use Research Unit Consulting group.Also, I am a member of Northern California Association Harm Reduction Therapists (CAHRT)
