I faced considerable hurdles in higher education as a first-generation college student. Coaches and mentors acted as pivotal waypoints as I acclimated to community college, and then to a four-year university. Because of their guidance and support, I was able to navigate the unfamiliar landscape of higher education, maximize my learning potential, and grow into a well-rounded individual. Experiencing this support first-hand also set me on my path to support adult learners, especially those from disadvantaged backgrounds.In my current role as an academic advisor, I work with undergraduate students in the college of science. I enjoy this role because I can help students find footing at Oregon State University, as well as succeed academically, and more broadly, in their social spheres and long term goals. Currently, I am working to expand my professional skill set by completing a Certificate in Instructional Design. I have experience is public speaking, lecturing, program evaluation, motivational interviewing, and managing students during internships.
