Technical Officer, Process InvestigationsAeci Dec 1984 - Apr 1987UsColin was recruited out to South Africa as a Permanent Resident, specifically to work on AECI's PVC Computer Replacement Project. This was essentially a re-instrumentation project. The PVC plant is a highly complex batching plant, which cannot be operated without the plant computer. Over 30 man-years of software development had been performed by AECI/ICI, but the hardware was becoming obsolete. AECI selected a replacement system, and rewriting of software was required. Colin made modifications to the software, which enabled AECI to increase the plant capacity 8%, with no hardware investment.
