I am working as a freelance healthcare consultant in the state of Alaska. I work with telecommunication vendors and health centers designing technology solutions and helping the health centers obtain funding to pay for the technology advancements.

As the Director of Technology for the Kodiak Community Health Center, a federally recognized Health Center; my duties included: training staff on computer and application use, overseeing the use and development of our electronic medical record system, designing and implementing a robust and scalable technology infrastructure, including desktop computers, internal network, servers, phone and video conferencing systems. I also oversaw the construction of our new clinic building, with special attention to electrical and networking systems, and RFP processes to select vendors.

As a Senior Implementation Engineer, I worked with medical clinics across the country to setup, implement and train staff in the use of our electronic medical records product, PrognoCIS. My role required me to configure each system per each client’s needs, and jointly use oral and written communications, along with my project management skills to balance multiple concurrent projects. Along with my official duties I also helped in recruiting 2 new employees and the daily management of running the office.

Trained and provided in clinic support, as a Project Manager, to clinic medical professionals in the implementation of KP HealthConnect (Epic Systems, Electronic Medical Records software), and provided support and mentoring to Business Application Coordinators (support staff working directly with clinicians). In addition to my official job function I also provided in house training, to KP staff, in the use of MS Office applications, as well as aided in the implementation of special projects. Starting September 2006, I worked in the regional offices of Kaiser Permanente as a Senior Analyst running SAS jobs, and writing SQL scripts to collect data for analysis in Excel using advanced formulas and VBA.

During this time I had a variety of responsibilities and accomplishments as follows:I was the technical consultant for the Biological, Health and Environmental Studies Department, where some of my duties were, but not limited to, set up and maintain the division web server running Linux, design websites for all the programs in the department, train the faculty and staff in the use of technology, and help develop new media teaching aids. I worked with a group of 4 people to start an internship-training program, where I developed curriculum and served as 1 of 2 technical trainers, training the interns how to refurbish old computers; refurbished computers were donated to needy students. I also maintained De Anza College’s website, made recommendations for hardware, software and interface design. I trained campus faculty in maintaining their own websites and was the project manager and lead technician migrating the college web server from a Macintosh to Red Hat Linux.
