This is one of the two companies that I launched in January 2017, making that month extremely interesting, maybe the most ever. After a chance meeting with a young Everest Region Sherpa named Dawa Jangbu Lama in August 2016, Holly and I decided to combine our marketing and administrative backgrounds with Dawa’s vast experience and network in Nepal’s adventure tourism industry to create an exciting new trekking company. A trek to Mt. Everest had been at the top of our bucket list for many years, so we set out to create the kind of company and user experience we would want for themselves. Since summer 2021, we have expanded into Peru, Scotland, and Montenegro. We expect to add Patagonia and Morocco in 2022. Hobnail Trekking Co. makes the process of trekking internationally as simple, non-intimidating, and fun as it can possibly be. There will always be a level of uncertainty and complexity to traveling somewhere as remote as the Everest region of Nepal or the Peruvian Andes, but we remove as much of that “fret factor” as possible. Our goal is for you to concentrate on having the time of your life!

As Communications Director, my job was multi-faceted. I supervised and conducted the marketing and branding of our 70-year-old NGO to a contact list of more than 225,000 through e-marketing platforms like Constant Contact and social media. I edited any substantial communication that came out of TWF's office — CEO opeds, letters, Powerpoint presentations, and marketing materials — and wrote speeches and scripts for any large event. I edited the Federation's magazine, wrote and photographed many of the stories, and worked with freelancers to handle the rest. I produced or co-produced several promotional and how-to videos and for two years, worked closely with production staff from the Emmy Award-winning Tennessee’s Wild Side television program, of which the Federation was a main sponsor. I was the primary web designer and web master for our website at www.tnwf.org and worked closely with TWF's program and development staffs to handle all of our electronic and marketing needs and meet the Federation's fundraising goals. I hired and supervised a full-time graphic artist who designed a multitude of print and web projects and worked closely with outside printers, additional web designers, promotional product vendors, freelance graphic artists, voiceover talent, videographers, and media relations/PR professionals.I helped plan, script, and coordinate several Federation events, most notably TWF's annual Conservation Achievement Awards.The Federation is known for its outdoor advocacy and conservation policy, and I worked closely with the CEO to communicate TWF's stances on various issues via our website, social media, and email list. When necessary, we conducted grassroots campaigns to rally support for or against legislation on Capitol Hill. I also developed and led a marketing campaign to bring public awareness to the tenants of the North American Model of Wildlife Conservation.

Assistant editor of the Tennessee Cooperator and Directions magazine and editor of Spotlight magazine. For more than 10 years, I wrote, photographed, and designed an average of three feature or technical stories per month for the Tennessee Cooperator, the membership publication of Tennessee Farmers Cooperative and one of the most tenured and well-read agricultural magazines in the state. I also served as assistant editor of the Cooperator and edited every article or story that appeared in the magazine.I also edited Spotlight magazine, the employee publication for the more than 900 Co-op employees statewide, and handled much of the internal employee communications needs.As a senior member of the Communications Department, I created and wrote radio spots, coordinated voice over talent, handled most photography tasks, and was heavily involved in the planning process of TFC's annual meetings and other employee events.

Songwriter, performer, recording artist. I wrote for MCA Music Publishing, The Crosswind Corporation, and Orbison Productions from 1990-1998. During that time, I gigged extensively (shows, not frogs) across the U.S. and Caribbean and was fortunate to release two CDs of original music.
