Dreamwaves is building an application to help blind and visually impaired people navigate from point A to B using sound.They asked me to build them the complete web application and external facing API for this product.Because of the many interactions the frontend has with the map and the way state should be held across pages, I went with a Single Page App solution using Vue and Nuxt.And after considering speed to POC, ability to hire in the future and scalability, we decided to use a Python/Django stack for the back office / CMS and API for the SPA and iOS apps.This is one of my favorite kind of projects because I can jump in after some planning and build something out very rapidly, seeing and sharing results and gathering feedback often.The team is also a joy to work with and it feels great to deliver them results so they can get to the next steps in their journey.I'll share a link when it's live.

I was the only developer in charge of feature development and maintenance for the Primed Mind mobile app API.In the time I was working on the project:- There was zero downtime- Feature development time has gone significantly down compared to an agency with multiple developers- Test coverage went upMoving some services to a more GenServer heavy architecture has moved complicated error handling on the mobile app to the backend. This has simplified the mobile app and pushed it more toward being a dummy client instead of having to hold a bunch of state. Simple architecture has decreased bugs and increased productivity enormously.

I was a developer and managed a small team of developers building a Rails backed SPA that helps physical therapists create workout plans for their patients.The project required lots of front end work with vue components mixed with a bit of rails work. We also needed to be in lock step with an all-knowing external service.

I built smart contracts and Rails APIs that interacted with the Ethereum blockchain. I also built a native iOS app to integrate with https://github.com/DecentralizedML. It was unfinished but the source code is available on Github.It was a really fun project but was cut short because of Crypto Winter.

I was tasked to build an infrastructure for mining Ethereum in a small mining farm in Austria. The goal was to be able to network boot a rig with some GPU's attached to it and have it immediately start mining. There were many bumps along the way:- Machines were locking up on reboot- GPU errors stopping mining- Docker doesn't work very well over NFS- Machines just go missingThe farm is far away from where I'm stationed so I learned a lot about managing a lot of hardware from a distance.This project has been a huge lesson in trade-offs. There were a lot of pivots so deciding on the right trade-offs was not always very straight forward. There is a lot of hard to test things, a lot of duct tape and some pretty interesting hacks, like a small network of raspberry-pi's that are a backup for managing the rigs.It has been by far the most challenging, interesting and frustrating project I have worked on. And there were weeks where I only wrote bash or yaml.
