Safely Navigated 110 GRT vessel in and out of ports and near coastal environment. Performed law enforcement of fisheries vessels.

Served as team leader to interdict and detain narcotics smugglers in the maritime environment while deployed on a Medium-Endurance Coast Guard Cutter. Specialized in operating small boats to employ non-compliant boat pursuit tactics authorized to disable vessel engines using small arms.Safely navigated 2100 GRT vessel in and out of port and during open ocean transit as Deck Watch Officer. Prepared and maintained paper and electronic navigation charts.

Instructed junior Coast Guard personnel, Virginia Beach Fire Department personnel, and international military personnel (including Jordanian Navy, Trinidad and Tobago Coast Guard, Japanese Coast Guard, and Belize Coast Guard) in seamanship, boat navigation, towing, and boat handling. Led one of four sections of instructors by organizing schedules, approving leave, training new personnel, and acting as class advisor for BM “A” school students.Performed semi-annual and annual inspections on search and rescue gear for 100 personnel including standard issue gear, flotation devices, survival vests and pyrotechnics, and boat equipment including life rings and strobe lights. Ensured unit compliance with Coast Guard policy and all new personnel were provided training on survival equipment. Served as a Unit Health Promotion Coordinator assisting members in complying with CG weight and body fat standards.

Responded to emergency calls received from 911 dispatch and VHF channel 16 as a boat crewmember and coxswain which included dewatering sinking vessels, administering first aid, providing CPR, and responding to boat fires and other various emergencies. Trained personnel in ice rescue techniques and air boat operations.Served as Officer of the Day to launch boats in response to emergencies and ensured crews were equipped, trained, and prepared to respond to emergencies in the maritime environment. Performed maintenance on unit small arms, inventoried and reported quantities of ammunition and pyrotechnics, ensured unit physical security procedures were followed, and trained all personnel on small arms performance qualification standards.Performed homeland security patrols of maritime infrastructure and acted as mounted gunner and tactical coxswain for high-interest vessel boardings on freighters entering the Great Lakes.Served as Unit Health Promotion Coordinator and administered the CG Weight and Body Fat program ensuring members complied with weight standards and assisted those who failed to comply by providing workout plans and diet guidance.Served as Operations Petty Officer organizing and planning the movement of boats, duty section scheduling, and provided training for station coxswains and boat crew members.

Inspected, serviced, and repaired floating aids to navigation. This included the lighting systems, anchor chain, and concrete sinkers. I operated a 60-foot telescoping 20-ton hydraulic crane and various hydraulic winches to lift and move steel hulled buoys. I handled tag-lines to prevent the buoys from swinging, activated the deck winches, and connected and unconnected shackles to the buoy and chain. Maintained over 100 aids to navigation paper binders which contained chain, hull, and position information for an individual buoy. I updated and corrected nautical charts and all required publications in accordance with weekly local notice to mariners. On the bridge team, I drafted cutter smooth and weather logs as well as made entries into ATONIS buoy data information system, recorded synoptic weather that was sent to NOAA, and stood look-out and helmsman watches. Performed as a boat crewmember aboard cutter boats.
