I have a master's degree in biology and am looking for positions in molecular plant development, plant-microbe interactions and/or bioinformatics. I'm looking for positions that will enable me to broaden my current knowledge of coding and data processing while ideally allowing me to maintain a presence in a wetlab.I completed my MBiol project on the movement of the SCARECROW and SHORTROOT transcription factors involved in monocot venation patterning in the Langdale lab at Oxford University. This project involved: initial project design; generation of fluorescently labelled golden gate-compatible gene constructs suitable for transient transformation of N. benthamiana leaves; modelling of predicted protein structures in AlphaFold2 and PyMOL; confocal microscopy; R coding; writing a 7,000 word dissertation; presenting and working as part of the Digital Delivery team at the MBiol student conference and presenting a defence.My third year modules included Green Grand Challenges, Biology of Infectious Diseases, Evolution and Development, Ecology and Evolution, and Conservation and Sustainability.I also gained 16 weeks' experience in the field of plant-pathogen interactions at the John Innes Centre.I spent 8 weeks in the Carella laboratory working on pathogenic isolates of Pseudomonas in Marchantia. I carried out bacterial cultures and infiltrations of M. polymorpha and N. benthamiana, leaf sampling and colony counting. These data were compiled in Excel and GraphPad Prism9 was used to generate growth curves. This work was funded by the Gatsby Foundation's Sainsbury Undergraduate Studentship and presented as a poster at the network's annual meeting.I also spent 8 weeks at the John Innes Centre International Summer School. I was hosted by the Arora laboratory where I worked on pea infection assays involving members of the pea root rot complex. During my stay, I extended the study to include competition assays between fungal strains and helped with the general maintenance of the laboratory. This work was presented at the JIC summer school conference.
