I create budgets and draft proposals for a variety of natural heritage projects, including a winning proposal for the Species at Risk Stewardship Program (OMNRF). I write reports for natural heritage/environmental assessments for private companies, municipalities, provincial and federal government. I provide plant identification and verification services for individuals within and outside of the Ecology group in WSP. I've classified hundreds of vegetation communities across southern and northern Ontario using the Ecological Land Classification protocol. I worked in the lab and in the herbarium studying herbarium specimens of the parasitic vine known as Dodder (Cuscuta spp.).I conducted detailed floral dissections and digital imaging for morphometric study using light and scanning electron microscopy and digital imaging software. I verified identifications of herbarium specimens, and recorded relevant habitat information from herbarium labels for ecological study. I prepared material from herbarium specimens for DNA extraction.

Freelance Botanist for Wild Wood Apothecary. I identified photo vouchers of plant specimens collected to create herbal products and generated brief reports highlighting key characters used to identify plant species.

Classified vegetation communities using the Ecological Land Classification protocol in a variety of ecosystems across the Credit River watershed. Verified difficult plant specimens using taxonomic keys and dissecting microscopes, and prepared herbarium specimens for new and significant flora records within the watershed. Created several practical identification aids for challenging plan t taxa for field staff. Co-led a winter botany identification workshop. Completed a quality check of the Natural Heritage database, verifying the accuracy of geographical data for all records housed within the database.
